New Mobility Services 2nd Partners Meeting

The New Mobility Services initiative is part of the Action Cluster Sustainable Urban Mobility within the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities (EIP-SCC). It aims to facilitate piloting projects prepared for the Horizon 2020. On 12th of June in Brussels took place The Second Partners Meeting for The New Mobility Services (NMS) initiative, Ekinnolab has privilege to contribute.

After the 1st Partner Meeting we attended in February, six workgroups were created. Marek Stawiński was appointed as a coordinator of the workgroup dedicated to parking solutions in the context of multimodal mobility and addressing first- and last-mile challenges.

During the meeting we defined approach to the project which requires new business models based on convergence and creating Minimum Viable Ecosystem of partnerships. Among the challenges of cooperation there were identified: city budgeting, prolonged tenders procedures, changing responsibilities/cadencies.

Effective transport management in a city needs a holistic approach and integration of city parkings with multimodal transport. Therefore, there is the necessity to partner both with municipalities (owners of public transport and parking infrastructure) and private or commercial partners – owners of private parking facilities and nonpublic transport services providers.

Shared and autonomous mobility, as well as pick-up/drop-off curbside management are the areas which should also be addressed within the planned pilot projects. An important part of the meeting was defining synergy with other workgroups and wider projects like IMET, EV4SCC. We ascertained that managing parking infrastructure should overlap with the projects for electric vehicles, EV charging points infrastructure management to promote electromobility by encouraging drivers to park their cars and change to other environmentally-friendly modes of transport.

The other workgroups formed since the 1st Partners Meeting are commited to the following subjects:

  • Passenger demand-driven first & last mile solutions
  • Intelligent Speed Adaptation
  • Building the Traffic Management Centre of the Future
  • Multi-modal Transport & Logistics in Smart City Context
  • Changing roles governments/business impact/regulation/governance

The meeting in Brussels was a good occasion to tighten cooperation between workgroups’ participants, define concrete actions and prepare for The EIP-SCC General Assembly which will take place on 27-28th June in Sofia.
