Smart Parking – a Quick Win for Sustainable, Low-Carbon Transport

Transport has always been a complicated space, but in recent years it is becoming even more complex. Each day we see new entrants in the smart mobility ecosystem. Adding to this online shopping and food delivery — they all compete for limited public space in the streets but also for a place to park. Even if they try to park for several minutes, it disturbs traffic movement. Cities are constantly being challenged on how to manage that new traffic efficiently. And here parking policy comes into the picture.

To address the problem of congestion, and accommodate the growth of the urban population while not increasing pollution — a holistic approach to mobility is needed. Transformation of urban mobility which puts people at the heart of policies will require addressing spatial efficiency and equitable access to transport infrastructure, including parking.
